Professional Background
I am Kevin Michaels, owner of Hudson Valley Property Inspections llc and principal inspector and assessor. My work in home inspection and mold assessment draws on more than 45 years of experience in inspection, design, and installation. My career began in 1979 in Ulster County, where I served among other things, as a Quality Control Inspector in my family’s machine shop business.
Entrepreneurial Experience
After the family business was sold in 1995, I transitioned into owning and operating an electronics retail store in Saugerties, NY for 15 years. The company specialized in custom home theater solutions, commercial audio and video systems, and satellite installations. During that time, I gained extensive training and hands-on experience designing and installing electronic systems for new construction and renovations. As technology advanced, I also earned NYSERDA certification in the design and installation of solar power and renewable energy systems.
Transition to Real Estate and Inspection
During the 2008 housing market downturn, I transitioned into real estate when the Town of Saugerties hired me as the HUD Inspector for more than 100 properties in its HUD program. That role showed me the importance of thorough home inspections, and the trust built between an inspector and a client. In 2009, I completed New York State home and building inspection courses, earned my professional certification, and obtained my NYS license. I then built Hudson Valley Property Inspections LLC into a reputable property inspection company serving the Hudson Valley and surrounding communities. In 2016, I expanded my credentials by earning the NYS Mold Assessor License in accordance with New York Department of Labor regulations.
After a full day of inspections and assessments, I enjoy playing golf, and spending time with my wife, Amy, and our pups, Harvi and Frank.
