Professional Background
I am Kevin Michaels, principal inspector and assessor, as well as the owner of Hudson Valley Property Inspections. My career in home inspection and mold assessment is built upon more than 45 years of experience in inspection, design, and installation. This extensive journey began in Ulster County, where I worked in my family’s machine shop business as a Quality Control Inspector.
Entrepreneurial Experience
After the family business was sold two decades later, I transitioned to owning and operating an electronics company for 15 years. This business focused on customized home theater solutions, commercial audio and video systems, and satellite installations. Throughout this period, I benefited greatly from extensive training and hands-on experience, both in the design and installation of electronic systems for new constructions and in the renovation of existing structures. As technology evolved, I attained NYSERDA certification in the design and installation of solar power and renewable energy systems.
Transition to Real Estate and Inspection
During the 2008 housing market downturn, I decided to move into the real estate sector. At that time, I was hired by the Town of Saugerties to serve as the HUD Inspector for over 100 properties within the town’s HUD program. This experience highlighted for me the critical importance of home inspection and the significant relationship between an inspector and the client. In 2009, I completed the New York State home and building inspection courses, obtained my professional certification, and received my NYS Licensing. I then started to develop Hudson Valley Property Inspections, LLC into a reputable and respected property inspection company serving the Hudson Valley and neighboring communities. In 2016, I further expanded my qualifications by acquiring the NYS Mold Assessor License, in compliance with New York’s Department of Labor regulations for mold assessment.
When I have completed a full day of inspections and assessments, I enjoy playing golf, bowling, and spending time with my wife Amy and my pups, Harvi & Frank.
